Ill be the first to /sign it then

From what I read out of the OP is;

1. The guild leader/Officer sends an invite to the player.
2. The player accepts the invite by paying the 100g himself (but cant send an invite himself to start the procedure as many seem to think)
3. If the player doesnt pay the 100g, then he isnt serious about joining adn isnt a 100g loss for the leader/officer

100g isnt much at all. I have no problem with forking over the 100g to invte a player. What anoys me however is I find it a waste of my time to run to the nearest storage to take out the 100g just to see the player has left after a short time because he isnt serious about it or just plain a guild hopper.

First of all, 100g is nothing.

Second, if you're not going to take the time to know who you're inviting and go around mass inviting people, you deserve to lose that 100g.

In an hour's worth of time, an average player can make enough gold to invite 100+ people. That's more than enough for invites, unless your guild has an ungodly turnover rate.

As I said... im not complaining at all about the 100g. I know 10K an hour is relatively easy and deffinitely possible (hell, if you count ectos at 5K a piece ive made about 30K in half an hour with extremely lucky drops in the UW with a regular 8 man group).

What I mean is. Players who want an invite to a guild should make at least a minor effort at showing interest in joining (100g isnt much for the new member either for that matter). It would at least curb a few of the guildhoppers who do it as a kind of sport ( mainly "see how many guilds you can join in an hour" types).

As a rule of thumb I dont invite players unconditional to our guild... I send guest invites first (more than one if needs). Guildhoppers usually dissapear quickly, and real players show interrest in staying or are hopefully honest enough to say ntythxbai.

/notsigned for all the reasons others have stated

The last thing we need is for officers and leaders to have to go through a list of people who have invited theirselves to the guild. Especially if you are in popular guilds. Guilds like ZoS, DvDF, SMS, dR, rawr, StS, etc would have hundreds if not thousands of invites to reject weekly. Not a good idea.

If a guild has problem coming up with 100g for invites, they are not a serious guild.

I don't even remotely care about fancy stuff, but a guild that doesn't have a fully decked out GH is not something I'd even look at.

This isn't elitism, it's simply harsh realization that any guild that considers themselves serious will need all that.

Perhaps a major problem with people leaving is the recruitment process. Blind invites are bad. If you want semi-decent players, start searching between HM players, ranked players and people with some status symbols, FoW, chaos gloves, etc. Those have shown at least some dedication.

Recruiting in starter areas, accepting people with starter armor, etc will invariably get you a lot of undesirable members.

These are just practical observation. And those running noob-friendly guilds, well, you get what you ask for. Only a small fraction of players in any MMO are "serious". And those have something to show for.

Others are simply hit and miss.

That'd be awesome if you can self-invite like that though, which is different from what the OP is proposing I'm guessing. I'd spaminvite myself to ZoS just so I'd get rejected over and over again. After all, it costs 100g only after I get accepted :P

Why stop there? Pay 200g and invite yourself as officer!

But this then defeats why the 100g cost was added in the first place. It was to prevent guilds from spam inviting every single unguilded person they saw. If you shift the 100g cost entirely onto the invitee, you'll just see this behavior all over again.

And I don't think thats what the op wants. She seems to want someone to invite themselves into a guild and then get approved.

You have a point there... but I see it the same as with partyinvites.... go to any AB arena and wait 10 seconds. by that time you should have abotu 20-30 partyinvites form random players running around inviting everyone else. All you have to do is reject them or join a pary yourself for them ot go away.

Additional problem noone mentioned yet, guilds have a max roster of 100 people (leader, officer, member total). Invitees count against that number as well, guests do not. If everyone was always self-inviting, the top end guilds would never have a slot open to get a person they actually want into it. (Assuming that the guild leader or officer wasn't constantly rejecting).

What we do is have prospective members register on our web site and fill out a simple application. (Why do you want to join our guild; What do you have to offer; other similiar questions). If they do that they are showing that they indeed have an interest in joining.
